HAI Uses DOF Funds to Move to New Location

In December 2012, Hospital Audiences, Inc (HAI) closed a $500,000 loan with DOF to fund leasehold improvements related to its new location, 33-02 Skillman Avenue, Long Island City, NY, and to finance the purchase of a specially equipped bus capable of transporting physically disabled persons.

Founded in 1968, primarily to provide access to live performances for institutionalized individuals, HAI is nationally recognized for its work, designed to encourage and inspire those with challenging life situations such as disability, advanced age, chronic illness and/or poverty.

HAI offers an array of arts, education and wellness programs including: live arts performances at senior centers, nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and other social and healthcare facilities; free and low-cost tickets to cultural events; participatory arts workshops; audio description services for blind and visually impaired theater patrons; and, production of original music and dance pieces by the client population. It also owns and operates an “Omni Bus” program to provide group transport on retrofit buses, which can accommodate large numbers of disabled passengers.

We are very proud of DOF’s role in allowing HAI to grow its programs.
